MEATS TO EAT ON A KETO DIET
Grass-fed meat is the number one recommendation. You can read about why it is important to eat quality, ethically raised animals here. Avoiding factory processed meats and committing to eat healthier grass-fed meat is essential to optimize the benefits of being on a keto diet. However limiting the amount of protein is also an important consideration on the keto diet because too much protein will be converted into a glucose like substance, which can halt or delay ketosis.
MEAT SOURCES ON A KETO DIET INCLUDE:
High in potassium, magnesium, zinc, and B-vitamins, grass-fed meats and poultry will leave you feeling satisfied and full of energy. Foods from animal sources are great for the keto diet because protein is mostly zero carbs.
All cuts of beef are good. Roast beef, ribs, steak etc. Other types of meat that can be eaten include; lamb, veal, venison and pork. Include organ meats in the keto diet as these are high in nutrients. These include liver, kidney, heart, kidney, tripe and tongue. Avoid buying meats in pre-marinated sauces which are often full of sugar and carbs. Equally be aware that processed meats such as sausages, meatballs and cold cuts often contain fillers such as breadcrumbs. This means that they are no longer keto-friendly. When in doubt look at the ingredients, aim for under 5% carbs. I personally stick with raw ingredients and make my own marinades, burgers and sausages. This way I know exactly what is in my sauce.
All types of Poultry can be eaten on the keto diet. These include;
